What Do A-AAA Ratings Mean?

Motorcycle jeans are tested and rated according to European safety standards, specifically EN 17092, which outlines several performance levels. The AA and AAA ratings indicate how well the gear can protect a rider in case of a fall or slide.

A

A Certified Protection

Meets basic CE standards.

Delivers essential CE protection for road rash abrasion and impact, combining everyday comfort with certified safety.

AA

AA Certified Protection

Delivers advanced CE protection for road rash abrasion and impact, combining road-ready comfort with reinforced toughness.

AAA

AAA Certified Protection

Delivers maximum CE protection for road rash abrasion and impact, uniting all-day riding comfort with uncompromising strength.

What does “CE Certified” mean?

CE stands for Conformité Européenne, a European standard that measures how well protective gear performs under impact, abrasion, and other real-world riding conditions. A CE certification means the product has been tested and certified against strict performance benchmarks for rider safety.

Who tests and certifies motorcycle gear for CE ratings?

Independent certification labs that specialize in motorcycle safety equipment are the only organizations authorized to certify products like NBT’s as CE certified. These labs follow the established European safety standard EN 17092.

Does NBT test its products for CE performance?

Yes. At NBT we rigorously test our gear in development and production to ensure it meets or exceeds CE standards. However, only an independent, accredited certification lab can officially certify a product as CE-rated.

Why should I care if my gear is CE certified?

CE certified gear has been proven to provide a higher level of protection in real-world crashes. It gives riders confidence that their clothing isn’t just stylish, it’s built to keep them safer when it matters most. Without CE certification, you’re trusting luck, not proven protection.

What’s the difference between A, AA, and AAA certification?

CE ratings use a sliding scale from A up to AAA. A provides essential protection for lighter rides with reinforcement at key hot spots like shoulders, elbows, and knees. AA offers advanced protection for most road riding, adding hot spot reinforcement to the hips for broader lower-body coverage. AAA is the highest level, designed for the toughest conditions with maximum defense across shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, torso, and seat.

Do all NBT products carry a CE certification?

All our protective tops and bottoms are CE certified, while some others are lifestyle-focused pieces. We clearly label which items are CE-certified so you can make an informed choice based on your riding style and protection needs.

How do I know if a product is truly CE-certified?

Look for the official CE label inside the garment. NBT provides this information for all products that have undergone certification with independent labs.
